Stories of Art and History
Introducing myself
Hi everyone, I am Gabriella, and I recently completed my Bachelor's degree in Arts and Humanities (Art History). Art and visual culture have always fascinated me, all the way back to my childhood days. I can remember spending hours poring over illustrations in books, or gazing at the paintings around my house, seeing them as gateways to another world. And maybe I was right because paintings really can transport you to another time and place, telling stories that are both fascinating and enlightening. What I'm most drawn to, though, is the way that certain paintings tell narratives. I'm a big fan of a good story, and paintings have so many tales to tell! History is another passion of mine. I am fond of early modern medicine and medical history in general. If time travel were possible, I would love to venture back to the classical era and witness the ancient world first-hand. Then, I would jump ahead a few centuries to Michelangelo's dusty studio, where I could observe the master at work and perhaps learn a thing or two. However, I would be hesitant to ask Michelangelo any questions given his infamous bad temper, and surely, I would need to be discreet about the unpleasant smell emanating from his unwashed and tattered clothes. So in this space, I'd like to share my thoughts, knowledge and ideas on topics related to art, history and the classical world.
